Inclusive Cycle 1

The Cycle 1 from AIS welcomes children aged 6 to 10 including children with SNE as long as we can give a pedagogical answer and the correct therapeutic.

The Cycle 1 from AIS is inclusive and proposes significant, active, diversified, integral and socializing learning. It’s a knowledge through action in action.

The building of the learning is done in an individual, fun, affective and secure way.

To implement all these characteristics we have chosen a methodology based on MSM – Modern School Movement. It is through this experience that are tested the human values that support justice, reciprocity and solidarity in a transforming exercise of mentalities to create engaging and active citizens.

The playgrounds are used during all  year.

PEDAGOGICAL WORK

The Cycle 1 from AIS (from year 1 to year 4) includes in its curriculum more than 1h30 per week of Portuguese and Mathematics, in a total of 12h per month.

The Guided Study takes place from Monday to Thursday, 1 hour per day when the teacher thinks it is important, in a total of 16h per month.

From Monday to Thursday during 1h, the Study Room is monitored by a teacher and it can be attended by students who are registered for a total of 16h per month.

PRIMARY SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

All year long, since the age of 4 months children benefit from activities carried by specialized teachers:

• Psychomotricity
• Music
• English (at the end of the Cycle 1 children can take the Starters exam of Cambridge University)

Apart from these activities in Cycle 1, there are other enrichment curricular activities, such as:

• Capoeira
• Living Science
• Drama
• Arts
• Table Manners Project

These activities can be changed.

ASSESSMENT

Parents/guardians have access to quarterly evaluations.

FACILITIES

AIS is a school without barriers. The institution welcomes children with SEN at nursery, at kindergarten and at Primary school.

• 5 rooms, 1 of which is a support unit
• 3 playgrounds, 1 of which is a covered space

TIMETABLE

AIS is opened daily from 7.45 a.m. until 7.00 p.m., from September until the month of July.

During the month of August the AIS organizes weekly holiday camps.

The activities start at 8.30 a.m.

A technical multidisciplinary, experienced and specialized team, acts in the related intervention areas:

• Specialized teachers for extracurricular activities

MEALS

All the meals are cooked at AIS kitchen (HACCP)

• Morning snack – 10.30
• Lunch – 13.00
• Afternoon snack – 17.00
• Extra Snack – when necessary

UNIFORMS

The AIS Cycle 1 uniforms (shirt, pullover, summer and winter coat, sweaters, t-shirts, shorts, training suits and hat) are acquired at AIS.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES 

All the extracurricular activities take place at the school facilities, except for the swimming lessons.

The extracurricular activities are:

• Ballet – 2 days a week
• Capoeira – 1day a week
• Dance – 1 day a week
• Judo – 2 days a week
• Swimming – 2 days a week

Extracurricular activities don’t take place during school holidays.

These extracurricular activities can be changed or enlarged.
